Caribbean journalists to meet in South Florida

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The changing paradigm between the Caribbean Diaspora and the region, building a solid investigative reporting unit and increasing visibility of the Caribbean Diaspora and region are on the agenda for the first national meeting of journalists from the Caribbean and of Caribbean descent in the United States.

The National Association of Caribbean-American Journalists will hold its convention at the Marriott-Renaissance Plantation Hotel from March 28 to March 30, 2008. The three-day conference will be held in Broward County. West Indians or Caribbean-Americans comprise the largest ethnic group in Broward County.

About 100 journalists are expected to attend the professional workshops, plenary session and awards luncheon and about 500 Broward county residents are expected to attend the town hall meeting that will lead up to a June 2008 follow-up to last year’s Conference of the Caribbean.

Participants confirmed thus far include Brant Houston, former Hartford Courant investigative reporter and executive director of the Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc.; Les Payne, columnist for Newsday, Paula Madison, VP of Diversity of NBC Universal and many more.
