Caribbean diplomats to take part in forum on CSME and CCJ

NEW YORK – (JIS)- Several Caribbean diplomats to the United Nations in New York will come together to share their understanding of the roles and functions of the Caribbean Single Market & Economy (CSME) and the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), at a town hall forum to be held at the Freedom Hall Church of God in Brooklyn, New York, on Thursday, July 6, beginning at 7pm.

According to forum co-ordinator and founder of the Caribbean American Programme for Empowerment (CAPE), Amir Akbar, this forum would attempt to clear up some of the lingering misunderstandings associated with two of the fundamental initiatives toward Caribbean unity.

For Jose Richards, President of Sons & Daughters of Jamaica, Inc., “there is an urgent need for more meaningful dialogue with those who are elected to serve and, hopefully this forum will result in a more enlightened community, especially on the matter of regional integration”.

The forum coincides with the 27th CARICOM Heads of Government Conference currently taking place in St. Kitts & Nevis.

Here in New York City, the forum comes at a time when regional governments are beginning to focus on the dynamics of the Caribbean Diaspora in their national development agendas for the 21st Century.

Permanent Representatives (Ambassadors) to the United Nations and Consuls General from Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago have confirmed their participation in the forum, which is a joint undertaking of CAPE, USA; Sons & Daughters of Jamaica, Inc; Jamaica Impact (JAMPACT), Inc; and the Freedom Hall Church of God, Brooklyn, New York.
