Caribbean Bar Association’s Central Florida Chapter to Celebrate it’s First Anniversary with a “Barrister’s Ball”
The Caribbean Bar Association’s Central Florida Chapter (“CBA-CF”) will celebrate its first anniversary at its first Annual Barrister’s Ball, a black tie event which will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort Convention Center, 8701 World Center Drive, Orlando, Florida. Tickets are $60 per person.
The Keynote Speaker for the Barrister’s Ball will be Beverly Manley, a former First Lady of Jamaica. She was married to former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Michael Manley, and has been a pioneer in making significant strides for women in her home country of Jamaica. She served as Jamaica’s representative to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Mrs. Manley’s reach extends beyond, Jamaica, however. She is a gender and transformational trainer as well as a consultant on Third World developmental and communications issues. She is also co-producer and co-host of a thirteen year old weekday discussion radio program in Jamaica on CVM’s radio, Hot 102 called “The Breakfast Club.”
The evening’s Mistress of Ceremonies will be Carolyn Fennel, Director of Public Affairs for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, Orlando International Airport. Music will be provided by Mystik NRG Band of Orlando and the door prize will include 2 Roundtrip Tickets from Air Jamaica which will be raffled.
A portion of the proceeds from the Barrister’s Ball will be used for scholarships for either college or law students of Caribbean descent. Michelle Tomlinson, President of the CBA-CF noted that “It is important that all groups are represented in the legal system, and we are pleased that the [CBA-CF] will be able to use a portion of the proceeds from the Barrister’s Ball to this end.” The public is invited to attend and support this event.
