Caribbean-Americans join over 20,000 for 15th Annual Race for The Cure in Miami

MIAMI – With the inspired support and participation from the staff of the Consulate Generals of Jamaica and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, over 150 persons from South Florida’s Caribbean community joined 20,000 supporters of breast cancer awareness for the 15th Annual Komen Race for the Cure in Downtown Miami.

Known as D’ Limers, various Caribbean businesses and organizations collaborated to elevate breast cancer awareness and prevention. The group welcomed a number of breast cancer survivors, including Carla Hill, a survivor of 3 years and Robbie Bell, a survivor of over 40 years.

D’Limers, Carla Hill and Giselle Blanche wore their Carnival headpieces and stood out in the crowd.

The D’Limers team finished the walk under 2 hours and enjoyed a spirited Caribbean breakfast of Haitian bread, Trinbagonian bake and saltfish and shark. Music was provided courtesy of DJ House Arrest and Soca Diva. Some of the D’ Limers adorned themselves with headpieces from Carnival as a symbol of strength.
