Caribbean American Heritage Awards & Cultural Extravaganza Celebrate National Caribbean Heritage Month
SOUTH FLORIDA – The colorful and vibrant backdrop that will help celebrate Caribbean-American Heritage month include the Caribbean American Heritage Awards & Cultural Extravaganza on Friday, June 15th, 2012 at the Miramar Cultural Center (2400 Civic Center Place, Miramar, Fl, 33025) at 7:30pm.
The evening includes live performances and recognition of pioneers of Caribbean Culture. Produced by Jamaica Awareness Inc, and Miami Carnival Inc., this landmark black-tie event will commemorate leaders who work to enrich, spread and service Caribbean culture.
Honorees
The distinguished list of honorees include; Dr. Orlando Patterson, Peter Marshall, Bob Andy O.D., David Rudder, legendary radio personality currently on irietimes.com Ronald Burke, organizer and philanthropist June Minto, founder and chair of Christmas in July Dr.Ceila Earle, radio personality on WZAB 880 AM Mike Andrews, Dr. Michelle Kirmwin, Nancy St. Leges, and Stephanie Sylvestre.
Live Performances include Bob Andy, Raging Fyah band, Gem Myers, Dem Three Teors, Eugene Grey, Roger George, Jayadevi, Carimer Cultural Group and Natty. Tickets are $35 Reserved Balcony, $50 Reserved Orchestra, $75 Reserved VIP Includes VIP Cocktail Reception at 6:00pm
Colors of the Caribbean Festival
The celebration festivities continue with Hollywood ArtsPark Experience “Colors of the Caribbean” produced by Caribbean American Heritage Florida, Inc., The Rhythm Foundation with the support of the City of Hollywood Florida, and Hollywood CRA on Saturday, June 16th, 2012 at the ArtsPark at Young Circle in Downtown, Hollywood Florida from 4pm-11pm.
This diverse blend of authentic Caribbean Culture includes; art, music, travel, culture, entertainment, food and drinks will highlight the rich culture of the Caribbean. This family event is free and open to the public. The hosts include WPLG Local 10 Weekend Anchor Neki Mohan and NBC 6 Miami Weekend Anchor Sharon Lawson.
Live performances include Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths, renowned Calypsonian David Rudder backed by Leon Codero and Code 868. Music by DJ Savage One, “Giselle D Wassi One” and Eternal Vibes. Haitian visual artist Roland Mecklembourg will display his “Universal Xplosion of Heart” exhibit in the ArtPark Gallery.
Free parking is also available in Downtown Hollywood and for attendees convenient valet parking will be available at the ArtsPark.

This family event has something for everyone and we are excited to partner with the Rhythm Foundation, City of Hollywood and the City of Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency to raise awareness about the contributions that Caribbean American people have made to our country,” states Executive Director Asa Sealy, Caribbean American Heritage of Florida, Inc.
This free Caribbean cultural event is poised to be a premiere annual family event. Events for the day include: the Caribbean Airlines Travel Expo (Trinidad &Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados and Haiti); Kids Zone, Caribbean Food Village, Caribbean Arts and Craft, Live Tassa, Folk Dance and Cultural Performances.
