HAMILTON, Bermuda – On behalf of the people and Government of Bermuda, I offer our sincere condolences to the family of the late Rex Nettleford. As a teenage schoolboy in Jamaica in the sixties, I first encountered this man when he was involved in dance and theater.
From then until Tuesday, I have observed and listened to Rex Nettleford as he rose to iconic status in Jamaica and across the Diaspora. His ability and willingness to answer the calls of people inviting him to lecture, be interviewed or to receive an honor were extraordinary.
Professor Nettleford has left a huge imprint on the lives of millions of people. We join the rest of the world in giving thanks for the time he spent with us.
