Antigua and Barbuda welcomes American Airlines Non-Stop Service from Miami to Antigua

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua and Barbuda will welcome the American Airlines non-stop service between Miami and Antigua with a water cannon salute at the VC Bird International Airport.

Government and Tourism Officials will be on hand to greet passengers disembarking the non-stop service flight scheduled to begin on September 6, 2008.

“American Airlines has been an important partner in promoting travel to Antigua and Barbuda,” said Director General of Tourism (Ag) Corthwright Marshall. “The addition of this direct flight to Antigua has been highly anticipated. It is extremely convenient and it is expected that it will stimulate greater travel from the US Market.”

Saturday’s flight on the Boeing 757 with 132 economy seats and 16 business seats is fully booked. The non-stop service from Miami to Antigua will facilitate smoother connections from many major US and Canadian gateway cities including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Toronto, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Atlanta and Houston.

The non-stop flight will initially operate on weekends with flight 1906 departing Antigua at 2:35p.m. and arriving in Miami at 5:45 p.m. Flight 1907 will depart Miami at 10:25 a.m. and arrive in Antigua at 1:30 p.m. Daily flights will begin on November 2.

Within the last three months Antigua and Barbuda has also announced one other non-stop route to the islands being Delta Airlines from New York’s, John F. Kennedy International Airport.
