An appeal from Georgia Senator James for Haiti

ATLANTA – ‘There Are Still Lives to Be Saved.” Little Ms. Jessica was pulled out of the rubble, a week after the earthquake devastated Haiti. She is one example of many more isolated cases of precious survivors being found before the last hour. But time is running out;
plus, the tsunami-style quake has created thousands of new orphans.

I am Senator Donzella James in the 35th District of Georgia. I am sending out an urgent appeal for aid to victims in the wake of a massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake that devastated Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th, and a 6.1 aftershock on Wednesday, January 20th. The damage to buildings is extensive with an estimated number in hundreds of thousands injured or dead.

Thank God, we have found a way to get needed resources directly to the people who need the most help and can’t get to the central town area. You can imagine the total chaos that has erupted. The destruction has leveled cities 35 miles north of Port-au-Prince.

I am supporting the grass root efforts of Sonje Yo, Inc, a 501(c)3 organization I have worked with for the last two years. This is an Atlanta based foundation with an office in Port-au-Prince with the ability to directly service survivors in remote and difficult-to-reach areas with emergency supplies. It is the only human rights organization founded by a native Haitian who has effectively been servicing the needs of the Haitian people for the last six years.

I encourage you to visit their website, www.sonjeyo.org to select how you may want to donate. You may also send your generous donations to: Sonje Yo, Inc., ATTN: Ambassador Esai Ambo, 4355 Cobb Parkway, Suite J-457 Atlanta, GA 30339.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me or you may reach Ambassador Esai Ambo at 754-245-3345.

Thanking you in advance for your prayers and support for the Haitian people.
