LONDON – Air Jamaica recently thanked its United Kingdom-based (UK) customers for 10 years of support for the airline, with a special dinner and dance at the Thistle Marble Arch in London.
On hand to celebrate the occasion were new President and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Conway; Senior Vice Presidents Will Rogers and Paul Pennicook; Manager for UK and Europe, Tony Cowles and the airline’s UK-based staff.
Mr. Conway, in his remarks, praised the Jamaican community in the UK for its loyalty to the airline. He said that a lot of time was being spent by the company on enhancing its service, and announced that new and improved features and products would be added as at June 1.
Professor Rex Nettleford, Vice Chancellor Emeritus of the University of the West Indies and chairman of the Jamaica Diaspora Foundation, commended Jamaicans in the UK for their loyalty to the country, noting that the UK Diaspora represented everything good about Jamaica.
Professor Nettleford, who is also an Air Jamaica board member, said that the airline was part of the infrastructure for growth and was an important institution for the development of the country. “A modern 21st Century country has to have a modern national airline. If we are to survive in the 21st Century, we need this important institution for growth and development”, he stated.
The special 10th anniversary celebration was also attended by High Commissioner to London, Gail Mathurin; Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, Mike Henry; Chancellor of the University of Technology, Lord Bill Morris as well as several community and business leaders.
Ten lucky persons attending the function were presented with airline tickets.
