Additional Boost for Jamaica’s Olympic Homecoming Celebration

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Olympic Homecoming Celebration Fund got an additional boost on Wednesday (Oct.1) when a cheque for Four Million Dollars (J$4,000,000) was presented by Spanish Ambassador, His Excellency Jésus Silva, on behalf of the Spanish Jamaica Foundation.

In presenting the cheque, Ambassador Silva who is the president of the Spanish Jamaica Foundation, said that the group which comprises all the Spanish hotels in Jamaica, took the initiative to offer some help to the athletes. He said this was their way of showing the athletes that they are proud of their achievements in the recent Beijing Olympics.

The Ambassador also said that all hotels in the group are offering the athletes complimentary stay at any hotel of their choice within the group.

In accepting the cheque, Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Hon. Olivia Grange expressed her gratitude for the contribution and her admiration for the corporate spirit displayed by the Spanish investors.

The Olympic Homecoming celebrations will get underway on Friday, October 3 with a number of activities climaxing on October 10.
