Due to the overwhelming interest and response to the annual event, accommodations at the Grand Lido Hotel have been long sold out, resulting in additional accommodation at other nearby hotel properties including Breezes in Runaway Bay, Starfish, Trelawny and Bahia Principe, St. Ann.
Described as witty and humorous, Baisden, a popular syndicated radio host, will broadcast live, his daily radio talk show “The Michael Baisden Show” from the resort.
Top ranked as the national urban afternoon radio program, the four-hour broadcast airs week days across 70 syndicated affiliates in prime markets encompassing a multi-media platform including websites, pod casts, mobile channel and live events, reaching nearly five million listeners each week. The daily format includes entertainment, music, comedy and social commentary.
Jamaica was selected by Mr. Baisden after an earlier visit when he fell in love with the island. “Jamaicans have become our family,” according to Ms. Pamela Exum, Michael Baisden’s business manager and coordinator for this year’s event.
In an interview with JIS News, Ms. Exum explained that Jamaica scored first selection after visits to other Caribbean islands, and has since remained the venue of choice for Michael’s Island Jam. “Our visits are easier to organize,” she said, at the same time, commending the Jamaican people for their warm hospitality and caring spirit. “They are always willing to work with us and make our trip very special”.
“A hectic schedule will include excursions to the many tourist attractions,” she explained, and guests were looking forward to experiencing the ethnicity and rich culture of Jamaica, she added. “Some of our listeners have been to Jamaica and are again looking forward to their return.”
Mrs. Zein Nakash, Vice President of Marketing at SuperClubs expressed her delight for the return of the annual Island Jam Take Over and said “our all-inclusive resort’s energized atmosphere and Michael’s vibrant personality will undoubtedly create an unforgettable week for our guests.”
She indicated that the extensive schedule of traditional fare, beach parties and golf tournaments would create a memorable ‘birthday bash’ for the special guest – Michael Baisden who will celebrate his special day during the four-day event.
The activities will also incorporate a mix of foreign and local Jamaican performing artists who will participate in stage shows, street parties, fashion shows and golf tournaments while carrying out live broadcasts.
The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and Air Jamaica Limited are among the coordinators of the four-day excursion. According to Diana Willis, media manager for JTB in Miami, “Michael Baisden is a huge supporter of Jamaica, and we are most pleased to assist in coordinating with SuperClubs the live broadcast and activities which promises to make this event better than ever.”
