FT. LAUDERDALE – On Monday, November 14, Florida’s Gov. Rick Scott appointed Jamaican born, Levi Williams to the Commission for Independent Education, the panel that oversees non-public higher education in Florida.
Williams, 43 resides in Ft. Lauderdale and is a past general counsel for the Broward Republican Party. His current political endeavor involves bringing Americans for Tax Reform – a group opposed to all tax increases – to South Florida.

A Republican committeeman, he was on gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum’s African-American Steering Committee last year. After Scott beat McCollum in the primary, he was the Broward grassroots campaign chairman for Scott’s campaign.
Levi is currently a partner in the law firm, Law Offices of Levi Williams, P.A. and prior to opening his own firm he was with the firm, Fertig and Gramling for 14 years.
The appointment must be confirmed by the Florida Senate.
