7th Annual Clarendon College Alumni Ball set for the weekend

For the past six years, the Clarendon College Alumni Association of South Florida has been hosting various fundraising events to provide scholarships for children in need at Clarendon College in Jamaica. The Seventh Annual Clarendon College Alumni Ball will be held on September 3 at the Sheraton Hotel in Dania.

Their efforts were made possible with the help of sponsors like Air Jamaica, local businesses, community members, family, friends and other past students. “With their help, we have awarded scholarships for students who would not have been able to continue their journey through high school, much less attend a university” says, Dr. H. Broderick-Scott, President of the local Alumni Association. We have provided textbooks, computers, printers, Internet service and assistance for participation in Island-wide competitions. In addition to supporting their educational needs, we also found it necessary to provide hot lunches for a number of students.

Ten of the students that they have sponsored have graduated from Clarendon College and will be attending University. Three of the students have received scholarships to universities in the United States. “We look forward to increasing our support each year” says Dr. Broderick-Scott.

Dr. Broderick-Scott also states, “it is our goal to ensure that students are provided with the resources they need as they work hard to obtain an education”. Clarendon College Alumni Association of South Florida has also helped other local 501(c)(3) organizations like Women In Distress and the Love Bird Kids’ Club with their educational endeavors.
