21-member citizens’ Advisory Committee to monitor progress of building better communities bond program

A 21-member Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) has been created by Board of County Commissioners to monitor the progress of the $2.9 billion Building Better Communities Bond Program that will finance more than 300 capital projects throughout Miami-Dade County over the next 15 years.

CAC will provide input to the Mayor, the Commissioner and the County Manager on the bond program which was approved by Miami-Dade voters last November. The County is now in the process of developing a timetable for the projects, and following approval by the County Commission, construction on the first projects scheduled for 2005 is expected to begin later this year.

Miami-Dade residents interested in serving on the Citizens’ Advisory Committee should apply no later than 4 p.m. on May 6, 2005. The 21-member committee will consist of 13 members appointed by each of the County Commissioners, five members appointed by the County Manager and three members by the County Mayor. To qualify, applicants must be residents of Miami-Dade and have no financial interest, direct or indirect, in any of the programs or projects that are part of the bond program.

Applications for CAC membership are available at www.miamidade.gov or from the County’s Office of Capital Improvements located at Stephen P. Clark Building, Suite 1715, or by calling 305.375-1900. On April 27, the Office of Capital Improvements will hold an orientation at 6 p.m. on the 18th floor of Government Center for those interested in serving on the committee.

Applications should be submitted on or before 4 p.m. on May 6, 2005 at the following address, Miami Dade County Clerk of the Board Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, Suite 17-202 Miami, Florida 33128.
