Commentary With Winston Barnes: Wither Suicide

SOUTH FLORIDA – As a caller shared with us yesterday, May 24th (on Open Line WAVS 1170 AM) suicide would have robbed him of the apparently fruitful life he has lived since he contemplated the act.

Suicide according to another caller is covered under the commandment which says human kind should not commit murder.

The discussion on the Open Line was precipitated by the apparent murder of an elected official in Miami Dade County two days ago.  This murder I am also reminded refutes the notion that Black people don’t commit suicide.

depressed and contemplating suicideI suspect that per capita, at least in the USA, Black people kill themselves at a rate similar to others.

Psychologists suggest friends and relatives can look for signs which suggest someone is contemplating taking their own lives. It is also believed that people who commit suicide have little understanding of how their death will affect their families.

In other words, here is one more job for parents, as more and more youngsters are committing suicide, although the largest number continues to be men over the age of sixty eight.  This is another warning to the community we live in.
