SOUTH FLORIDA – Over the years I have harped about the relationship or lack thereof, between fathers and their daughters.
Well, thanks to callers to our Open Line program (WAVS 1170 AM) , it is time to examine the Son – Mother relationship.
I submit that we take the cue offered by two of our callers who said, unambiguously that they do not get along with their mothers. Equally clearly they both said they expressed their disagreement and walked away, never disrespecting their mothers.
That is of singular importance because of the dog-eat-dog world we sometimes live in. Yet, probably one of the most significant observations made by one of these male callers is that our parents owe us nothing. I absolutely and wholeheartedly agree.
And, I am the same person who does not necessarily agree with the practice of kicking one’s child through the door on their eighteenth birthday.
What I support is that young people, yes those in our community especially, rid themselves of this entitlement attitude! It will not serve you in any arena you plan on living.
I make this demand because one of the callers pointed out young men who walked with this “get everything” and “fast” mentality and both are dead.
