World Youth Netball Championships 2005 announces Naming Sponsor

Fort Lauderdale – The Organizing Committee of the World Youth Netball Championships – 2005 will be announcing Bank of America as the naming sponsor for the championships at a cocktail reception on February 27, 2005 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

“Securing a prestigious naming sponsor is a dream come true for us. Through the association with Bank of America, the sport of netball will receive tremendous exposure in the United States,” said Sonia Rodney Johnson, President of the United States of America Netball Association.

This announcement will be made at the kick off the first international netball test series being held in the United States. The test series will consist of the Under 21 Championship teams from Australia, New Zealand, England and the United States. Currently Australia is the reigning Under 21 Champions with New Zealand ranking third and England ranking fourth. Jamaica who is not participating in this test series is currently ranked number two in the Under 21 rankings.

The international teams will be competing in matches with the United States of America Under 21 national team as well as local and national netball clubs. Two clubs will be traveling from Georgia to take part in this prestigious test series. In addition to the actually matches, the visiting countries will be offering a variety of training sessions for members of the USA teams.

The matches will be played in various municipalities in Broward County in an effort to spread the word about netball and introduce Broward County to international netball. Matches will be played in Tamarac, Coral Springs, Hollywood and Miramar.

“We are extremely excited by the participation of our local municipalities, when approached about the event, we had an overwhelming response. Since a netball court is larger than a regulation basketball court, some municipalities were unable to participate in the festivities, but were able to assist in other areas,” said Lauderdale Lakes Commissioner Hazelle Rogers and Honorary Chairperson of the World Youth Netball Championships 2005 local organizing committee.

“The City of Lauderhill was eager to host some of the matches, but their largest facility was too small, however, they have been able to provide transportation for our teams for the week.”

With less than 6 months to go the championships, the momentum and excitement about the World Youth Netball Championships is building in the United States! This prestigious event will be held July 21-31, 2005 at the Broward County
Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, marking the first time a major international netball event has taken place in the United States. For more information visit them on the web at, www.wync2005.com.
