MIAMI-DADE – Voters who will not be available or simply don’t want to wait until November 7th to vote the 2006 General Election can still make their vote count.
Having the option of casting an absentee ballot or visiting an early voting site gives everyone the opportunity to have their voice heard.
“It has never been easier or more convenient to vote in Miami-Dade County, regardless of where in the world voters may be on Election Day,” said Supervisor of Elections Lester Sola.
Absentee Voting
For those wanting to vote absentee, the deadline to request an Absentee Ballot is Wednesday, November 1st. Requests can be made in writing or in person. A written request MUST include all of the following:
• Printed name of voter
• Current address
• Address where the ballot is to be mailed (if different than residence address, must state why)
• Date of birth
• Voter registration number (optional)
• Date of election(s) for which an absentee ballot is needed
• Signature of voter
Send this information in a envelope addressed to the Supervisor of Elections, Miami-Dade Elections Department, P.O. Box 521550, Miami, Florida 33152. E-mail or fax requests are not accepted unless the ballot is to be mailed overseas.
If requesting an absentee ballot in person, voters must bring a picture ID to the Election Department Main Office at 2700 NW 87th Ave., Miami, FL or the Voter Information Center (VIC) at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW 1st Street, Suite #112, Miami, FL (located on the 1st Floor, West Lobby).
Absentee Ballots can either be sent to your home or picked up at one of the locations stated above. Voters who are unable to pick up their Absentee Ballot in person can designate someone to pick it up for them. The designee must present his/her photo identification along with a written authorization from the voter stating the designee’s name, and must complete an affidavit.
Early Voting
Early Voting begins Monday, October 23rd and ends Sunday, November 5th. Miami-Dade voters will be able to cast their ballots at any of the County’s 20 convenient locations regardless of where their polling place may be. All locations are listed below. Early Voting hours of operation are as follows:
October 23rd – 27th from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
October 30th – November 3rd from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
October 28th & November 4th (Saturdays) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
October 29th & November 5th (Sundays) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Voters must bring photo identification with a signature (such as a Florida driver’s license) in order to vote. Voter Information Cards are not required, but will help expedite the process. Those voters who do not produce photo identification with a signature will have to vote a provisional ballot.
