Visit to Trinidad and Tobago by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore

PORT OF SPAIN – As Trinidad and Tobago moves ahead to accelerate the implementation and roll-out of e-Government and e-Business systems and services in Trinidad and Tobago over the next five years, a delegation from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore will be visiting Trinidad and Tobago from January 12th-22nd, 2009 to further develop the working relationship between this country and Singapore.

In December, the Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding that enables us to partner with the Infocomm Development Authority.

This MOU will support and enable public sector reform through cross-Government initiatives by further strengthening and supporting partnerships on projects and initiatives across various Government Ministries, including the Ministries of Trade, Finance, Legal Affairs, Health and Public Administration.

Resulting from the MOU, the delegation is expected to visit various Ministries and meet with officials with a view to examining how best to utilize the knowledge of the Singapore transformation experience to the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago. The delegation will be based at the Ministry of Public Administration, the body responsible for driving Government’s public sector transformation agenda.

As the country aggressively pursues Vision 2020, an agenda to achieve Developed Country Status by the year 2020, the MOU will foster co-operation and facilitate the exchange of knowledge in the area of ICT development. fastforward ; an initiative launched by the Ministry of Public Administration and Information in 2003 with a mandate to bring connectivity across Trinidad and Tobago. This project will shift its focus over the next three to five years to increasing ICT uptake and usage as a key enabler, for national objectives such as more effective government, competitive business, and innovative people.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is committed to growing Singapore into a dynamic global infocomm hub. IDA uses an integrated approach to developing info-communications in Singapore. This involves nurturing a competitive telecoms market as well as a conducive business environment with programmes and schemes for both local and international companies.
