Vice President Biden visits Miami to break ground at the future site of the Miami Intermodal Center

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Dennis C. Moss and Commissioners Sally A. Heyman, Barbara J. Jordan, Katy Sorenson, met with United States Vice President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood at the future site of the Miami Intermodal Center, (MIC). The distinguished visit took place on March 5, 2009.

The center will serve as a transit hub that will connect airlines, rental cars, buses, Metrorail and commuter rail. On Monday, transportation officials broke ground on the MIA Mover, a $342 million light-rail people-mover system that, when completed, will connect the airport with the MIC.

“The Miami Intermodal Center is just one example of the hundreds of transportation construction projects across the country receiving funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to immediately improve our transportation infrastructure and to ensure that our transportation system is equipped for the 21st century – and to put people back to work,” said Vice President Biden.

“We are pleased that the Vice President and the Secretary of Transportation came to Miami-Dade County and are supportive of our transportation projects,” said Chairman Moss.
