UVI Receives Another Half Million in HBCU Funding

ST. Johns, Virgin Islands – The University of the Virgin Islands will receive another $500,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education under the HBCU Institutional Aid Program.

The program, which was authorized by legislation co-sponsored by Congresswoman Christensen provides funds in addition to the $1.5 million granted last year.

“Last year, we were able to lift the cap on the amount of bonds that the Secretary of Education can guarantee for capital improvements under the HBCU Capital Financing Improvement Act and the Higher Education Act,” Congresswoman Christensen said on Friday. “The money can be used to provide financial assistance to establish or strengthen academic resources, financial management, endowments and physical plants of historically black colleges and universities for their enhancement,” she said.
