USVI’s Iggies named best in the Caribbean

ST. THOMAS, US Virgin Islands — One of the Caribbean’s quintessential beach bars is also one of its best, again. Iggies Beach Bar & Grill at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas was voted one of Best Beach Bars by the readers of Caribbean Travel + Life for the second time in five years.

In the 2012 Caribbean Travel + Life Readers’ Poll, Iggies was one of three recognized in the “Best Beach Bar” category. With a location in the US Virgin Islands, Iggies is the only beach bar on the list where US citizens can sip rum concoctions without a passport.

Iggies, named for the resident iguanas at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, is a St. Thomas hot-spot located on the sand steps from the water’s edge. Since 1990, locals and visitors have flocked to Iggies to mingle over ice-cold cocktails and beers, fresh seafood dishes and Caribbean-inspired bar food favorites. The friendly staff keep the fun times, good food and rum flowing from lunch until long into the night.

It’s not just Iggies’ famous VooDoo juice that keeps things lively. Those pulling up a barstool when the sun goes down are treated to live entertainment ranging from local musicians to recording artists for the famous Bands in the Sand concert series to the not-to-be-missed Wednesday Carnival Night Extravaganza. In fact, Iggies is the only place on St. Thomas with live entertainment 365 days a year.

The fun in the sun continues for Iggies guests who are staying at Bolongo Bay Beach Resort. Recognized by Frommers as one of the world’s best beachfront hotels, Bolongo Bay features 62 rooms that are all steps from the sand. A popular All Inclusive vacation option is ideal for guests who want to indulge at Iggies and Bolongo’s other seaside restaurant without worrying about the budget.

More than 150,000 votes were cast in the annual Caribbean Travel + Life Readers’ Poll. The complete results are featured in the March 2012 issue of the magazine.
