US Defense Secretary meet Eastern Caribbean leaders on security issues

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Hon. Sam Condor and Eastern Caribbean leaders will discuss regional security issues with United States Secretary of Defense, the Honourable Robert Gates.

Deputy Prime Minister Condor will represent Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas at the meeting in Barbados on Friday, April 16.

Eastern Caribbean leaders and senior national security officials meet with Mr. Gates to discuss the full range of security challenges facing the sub-region and especially how the United States can work with the Regional Security System (RSS) to strengthen the region’s capacity to meet these threats.

United States Charge d’ Affairs at the United States Embassy in Barbados, Mr. D. Brent Hardt is hopeful that the discussions will advance the common efforts to ensure that the Regional Security System (RSS) is effective in meeting the evolving challenges posed by organised crime, drug trafficking cartels, terrorists and natural disasters.
