T&T’s Prime Minister to address the Third Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister The Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar will address the opening ceremony of the Third Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA III) which takes place on November 17th and 18th 2011 at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain.

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in conjunction with the Organisation of American States (OAS), will host the meeting which will see the participation of Ministers and Vice Ministers from the thirty-four member states of the OAS responsible for National Security. Listed amongst the Heads of Delegations are the Hon. Tillman Thomas, the Prime Minister of Grenada and Minister of National Security and the Honourable Eric J. Holder, Jr. Attorney General of the United States of America.

The theme of the meeting will be “police management”. During the two-day meeting, Ministers and other the high-level participants will seek to build on three major areas: Modernizing police institutions within a democratic framework; supporting police professionalization and training; and strengthening cooperation on police information systems and enhanced use of technology. The ministerial meeting will conclude with the adoption of the “Port of Spain Recommendations for Police Management” and “The Document of Port of Spain: Institutionalization of the MISPA Process”.

The Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister, José Miguel Insulza OAS Secretary General and the Hon. Brigadier John Sandy, Minister of National Security will all address the opening ceremony which takes place at 9.00 am on the 17th of November at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain.
