Trinidad’s Prime Minister meets team of CARICOM observers

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Four members of a CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission which arrived in Trinidad and Tobago Wednesday (May 20) morning at the invitation of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Hon. Patrick Manning Wednesday afternoon at the Diplomatic Centre, La Fantasie, St. Anns.

The team was led by Mr. Hugh Cholmondeley, Chief of Mission and included Dame Billie Miller, Deputy Chief of the Observer Mission, Ms. Grace Ann Critchlow from Barbados and Ms. Mignon Bowen from the CARICOM Secretariat. The team gave the Prime Minister the assurance that they will oversee the proceedings of the poll in an effort to detect any irregularities, should these exist.

Prime Minister Manning told Mr. Cholmondeley and his team that as far as the Government is concerned, all parties with interests in the election will conduct themselves in a lawful manner and will adhere to the rules and regulations set out by the Elections and Boundaries Commission.

The Hon. Prime Minister indicated that he expects the important work of the CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission to be facilitated wholeheartedly by all interest groups.

According to Mr. Cholmondeley a report will be prepared shortly after the May 24th 2010 election for examination.
