Trinidadian Native Wins coveted Knights Art Challenge – Set to Present Spring Showcase

MIAMI -Knight Arts Challenge Winner, the Peter London Global Dance Theater, Inc. (PLGDT), will present its Spring Dance Showcase on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 7:00 pm at the Little Haiti Cultural Center located at 212-260 NW 59th Terrace in Miami.  

Hennessy will host a reception immediately before the performance beginning at 6:00 pm.  The Spring Showcase is open to the public and tickets can be purchased online at http://springshowcaseplgdt.eventbrite.com through May 5th.  Prices range from $50 for general admission to $120 for preferred seating.  
 
The PLGDT is under the artistic direction of world renowned dancer/choreographer and founder, Mr. Peter London.  The PLGDT is the culmination of Peter London’s dream of creating a world-class contemporary dance company in South Florida.  

The company’s mission includes developing, promoting and celebrating South Florida’s vibrant and electric multicultural heritage through the arts.  The PLGDT has received a major boost through a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.  The PLGDT, in residence at Little Haiti Cultural Center, has received a grant of $120,000.00 over the next two years.  
 
The Spring Dance Showcase on May 5th will include the talents of Jamar Roberts.  Mr. Roberts is a globally renowned dancer, formerly with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, who was recognized by DANCE MAGAZINE as “One of America’s 25 to Watch in 2007.”  Mr. Roberts is also a native of Miami and a former student of Mr. London.  As a PLGDT Artist Associate, Mr. Roberts makes his debut with two of his newly choreographed works:  a solo danced by Mr. Roberts himself and a company work.  
 
Peter London is currently a professor of dance at The Miami-Dade College/ New World School of the Arts, Miami, Florida.  Mr. London is a native of Trinidad, where he was lauded for his early mastery of traditional and classical dance.  Mr. London is a graduate of the Julliard School of Dance where he was the first recipient of the Martha Hill Prize for “Outstanding Leadership and Achievement in Dance”.  He is a former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, where he maintains an ongoing relationship.  Most recently, Mr. London represented Janet Eilber, Artistic Director, Martha Graham Dance Company, as a judge at the International Modern Dance Competition, Seoul, Korea, summer 2011.
