Trinidad & Tobago Tourism Development Company to Host Culinary Press Trip

Five US journalists will tour the twin-island nation to experience the local gastronomy

 Port of Spain, Trinidad – Trinidad & Tobago’s world renowned cuisine will be the focus of an upcoming culinary-themed press trip hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago Tourism Development Company (TDC) in conjunction with US representatives, Cheryl Andrews Marketing Communications from May 11-16, 2015.

Five journalists from the United States who represent some of the major international media houses including BBC Travel, San Francisco Chronicle, GlobeTrotter TV, New York Lifestyle, Fodor’s Travel, Caribbean Living and Elite Traveler will participate in the press trip, the second of its kind hosted by the TDC that is specifically geared towards the promotion of Trinidad & Tobago’s culinary niche.

According to Mr. Keith Chin, Chief Executive Officer, TDC, “Trinidad & Tobago’s rich and ethnically diverse history and culture has resulted in the formation of a distinctive culinary experience that cannot be replicated in any other destination. The fusion of the foods from our various cultural ancestors has created our own signature flavor and style that will position Trinidad & Tobago as a culinary destination of choice.”

The itinerary for the trip will ensure that the journalists are exposed to the variety of food options that are available in the destination, including the widely popular Trinidad & Tobago street food, fine dining experiences and Maracas Bake & Shark. A special rum an chocolate tasting will also be held in partnership with Angostura Limited, the one of the Caribbean’s leading rum producers, and Cocobel Chocolate to further showcase the diversity of this budding niche.

The culinary press trip is one of the many initiatives that the TDC, CAMC and Ministry of Tourism are collaborating on in order to further promote the myriad of tourism products that are available in Trinidad & Tobago that create a unique destination experience for US travelers.
