Trinidad and Tobago Has Golden Year in 2012

Port of Spain, Trinidad – Following solid media successes in 2012, the Tourism Development Company of Trinidad & Tobago (TDC) will continue its aggressive promotional campaign, spear-headed by U.S. public relations firm, Cheryl Andrews Marketing Communications (CAMC), to keep the destination “top of mind” with target consumers.

With cover stories in the travel section of The New York Times’ Caribbean issue and United Airlines’ international in-flight publication, Hemispheres, plus a 12-page Carnival feature in Caribbean Travel & Life, the word is out that this two-island nation, is one that savvy travelers should not ignore in 2013.

While the destination is known worldwide for its pulsating rhythms, elaborate costumes and vibrant events during the annual cultural explosion known as Carnival, feature articles have also been written about the island’s booming cocoa industry and its artisanal chocolates—as spotlighted in a feature travel story in the November 11 issue of The New York Times.

Culinary diversity and “riotously fun nightlife” were highlighted in a 12-page “Three Perfect Days: Trinidad & Tobago” cover story in the December 2012 issue of Hemispheres, United Airlines’ in-flight magazine. With approximately 150 million passengers traveling aboard United to more than 300 destinations annually, this story will travel far and wide.

Other publications that spotlighted the islands’ diverse activities and attractions and broad selection of accommodations in all price ranges include the Houston Chronicle, the Washington Post, the Miami Herald and Yahoo.com/Travel, which listed the destination as one of its “10 Amazing Undiscovered Islands.”

As a result of their combined efforts, the TDC and CAMC reached more than a billion consumers across traditional media and social media platforms, successfully positioning the dual-island nation as the next “gotta-go” destination for in-the-know travelers.

What’s more, 2013 has already gotten off to a good start with the inclusion of Trinidad & Tobago’s “crown-jewel” of festivals, Carnival, spotlighted in MSN.com’s “Mardi Gras Round-Up” and Caribbean Travel & Life’s February 2013 issue.
