MIAMI – New daily flights by Delta Air Lines from Jacksonville, London, Orlando and Tampa, as well as new routes from Amsterdam and Barcelona, are all scheduled to begin at Miami International Airport this month.
On March 26, Delta Air Lines will begin serving four new destinations with four daily flights from Jacksonville, one daily flight from London-Heathrow, and five daily flights from both Orlando and Tampa. Additionally, according to Official Airline Guide (OAG) data, Delta will relocate its daily service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Los Angeles to MIA beginning June 9.
Two new routes at MIA will also begin this month with KLM Airlines commencing four weekly nonstop flights from Amsterdam on March 21 every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and Iberia Airlines beginning nonstop service three times a week from Barcelona on March 29.
Later this year, twice-weekly service from Amsterdam by Dutch airline ArkeFly and five new weekly flights from Lisbon by TAP Portugal are scheduled to begin in June.
Passenger traffic at MIA in 2010 grew by five percent for a new all-time annual record of 35.7 million passengers, and the upward trend continued into January with a growth of six percent for the month. MIA’s growth has been bolstered by hub carrier American Airlines, which added 30 new daily flights in 2010 and plans to increase service to at least eight additional destinations in 2011.
