Thanksgiving Service To Honor The Life of Prof. Nettleford In Miami – Feb 23.

MIAMI – The Consulate General of Jamaica in Miami has confirmed that the Jamaican Community of South Florida will come together at a Thanksgiving Service for the life of Professor the Hon. Ralston “Rex” Nettleford to be held at the Holy Family Episcopal Church, Miami Gardens on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.

Tribute will be paid to his memory on that occasion by representatives of the cultural arts community, the University of the West Indies alumni, the Jamaican Diaspora Movement, and public leaders, among others.

This will allow for those members of our community who so desire to join the Jamaican Family in the nation’s capital on Tuesday 16th February, 2010 at the University of Jamaica, Mona Chapel, when a grateful people will honour Professor Nettleford at the Official Funeral accorded by the Government of Jamaica. Professor Nettleford will earlier be remembered in Kingston at a “Nine Night” cultural Jamboree planned for Thursday 11th February 2010 at the Ranny Williams Cultural Centre.

Nine Night Celebration

Here in South Florida, there will also be a prior opportunity to “pay respects” in a special “nine night” cultural celebration which will be hosted by members of the Jamaican Cultural Community at the Holy Family Episcopal Church Hall on Thursday evening (February 11th) commencing at 7:00 p.m. The general community is invited for a time of spontaneous reflection and remembrances in words , music and dance to which all are welcome.

Members of the South Florida Jamaican Community, the wider Caribbean Community, and all whose lives were impacted by the profound work, vision and spirit of our beloved cultural icon and educator are cordially invited by the Consulate General to join in the fellowship service at Holy Family on Tuesday afternoon (February 23).
