Tanya Stephens ”Rebelution” show versatility

MIRAMAR – Tanya Stephens once again displays her wit and musical sensibilities on her new album, Rebelution which will be in stores on August 29 on VP Records.

The 1st single, “These Streets” is an air acoustic guitar track that finds Tanya pleading with her thug-love to realize that “these streets don’t love you like I do.” The video for “These Streets” will be a video-length version of the Jamaican street classic film, Shottaz.

Rebelution also includes a bonus DVD of a live acoustic lounge performance in New York City featuring some of her past and present hits. Viewers will get a chance to go behind the scenes with Tanya at her studio and home in Jamaica.

The album features the musings of a songbird who is vulnerable enough to feel the pain, but tough enough to live through it. With a militant swagger, Rebelution is an edgy narrative of a street smart guerilla poet who continues to break the stereotype of what a female Jamaican artist should sound like. As always, Tanya tells her truth the way she sees it, uncompromising and uncensored.

“Sassy but sensuous Jamaican siren Tanya Stephen’s girl powered lyrics explore the scope of a woman’s worth Languid beats and strong songwriting skills distinguish her riddims from the reggae pack” is how Essence Magazines describes Tanya.

Tanya has scored international hits with the classics “Goggle” and You Nuh Yet.” Her last album Gangsta Blues yielded the one-drop anthem “It’s A Pity,” one of the biggest reggae tunes of 2004. The song introduced the rest of the world to Tanya Stephens with the single finding its way onto commercial radio and eventually video outlets like MTV Jams. The success of that single followed by the critical acclaim from numerous media outlets (including the NY Times, Village Voice, The Source, and Vibe Magazine), helped propel Tanya to the forefront of Jamaican music and is the reason why nearly 2 years after its release, Gansta Blues remains on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
