SuperClubs All Inclusive Resorts Sponsor Jamaican Students Competing in 2009 Spelling Bee

HOLLYWOOD – Every year in the month of May, the Scripps National Spelling Bee is held in Washington, D.C. For several years running, SuperClubs Resorts and other Jamaican companies have proudly sponsored Jamaican students for this event. This year SuperClubs is providing rooms for the Jamaican spelling bee team to train in early May prior to the competition.

SuperClubs’ family-friendly Starfish Trelawny Resort & Spa will host the Jamaican students at the beginning of May so they can train for the upcoming competition. The students also trained at Breezes Runaway Bay Resort in early April. This all inclusive resort provided a perfect backdrop for the students to commence with their studying. The staffs are proud to support their local students in this great contest.

The National Spelling Bee has been running since 1925 and helps students improve their spelling and increase their vocabularies. The spelling bee is open to students who are under the age of 16 and have not passed beyond the 8th grade. The students must also attend schools that are officially enrolled in the spelling bees’ program for the academic year.

The Jamaican team is especially excited for the spelling bee, not only for the awesome locale for all inclusive family vacations in which they are training, but also because of history itself. The Scripps National Spelling Bee has been welcoming students from countries other than the United States since 1978. This year the spelling bee welcomes 28 participants from the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, New Zealand and South Korea. In 1998, Jamaican student Jody-Anne Maxwell won the spelling bee with the word “chiaroscurist.” With that historic win, Maxwell became the very first non-American student to win. This fact certainly motivates the Jamaican team.

To win the spelling bee takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Reading books and scanning the dictionary with more than 472,000 words helps the students prepare. SuperClubs knows this and is doing all they can to help support the Jamaican students. Not only is SuperClubs providing a place to train, they also provide wonderful places for families to take all inclusive vacations. SuperClubs Resorts wishes all students the best of luck at the Scripps National Spelling Bee!
