“The government through the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force will be embarking on a renewed and intensified effort to put a stop to the elements that are at the root of this problem. In this regard, I have challenged the police commissioner to end this unacceptable trend in our once peaceful Saint Lucia and he has been assured of my unwavering support.”

Given the involvement of youth in several violent crimes, Prime Minister King has called on parents to take greater responsibility for the actions and growth of their children.

He says all Saint Lucians must take personal responsibility for the present crime situation in order to return Saint Lucia to absolute tranquillity.

“I appeal to each and every Saint Lucian to play your part in taking a stance against crime. To the young men and women and others who are being lured by destructive elements, I ask you to rethink your choices; do not allow your talents to be wasted to a life of criminality. To the parents, siblings, friends and the wider community, I appeal to you to encourage and support a change in lifestyle by theses individuals. It is my fervent belief that through the combined efforts of the police and each and every citizen, we can deal effectively with crime.”

Prime Minister King says he will not waver or fail in his responsibility to ensure that every Saint Lucian and resident alike, fully enjoy the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed under the constitution.

Safety and security are two of those rights which the prime minister says will never be compromised.
