St. Kitts Tourism Week 2006 focuses on the youth

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – It is a privilege to be able to choose where one wishes to work and secure that job. Tourism week 2006 aims to expose the youth to the industry, so as to give them the opportunity to possibly choose a career in the sector and experience hands-on what is required of them.

The Tourism Experience is an initiative being adopted as part of Tourism Week 2006 to give teenagers specifically, an idea of the various jobs available within the industry. Thus far Timothy Beach Hotel, Kenneth’s Dive Center, Kate Designs and Kantours have offered to assign students to various posts within their business during the Week.

“This type of initiative is important for the sustainability of the industry, because in order for the sector to continue generating revenue nationally for generations to come, it needs people to drive it. One way to guarantee this, is to expose today, the adults of tomorrow. The private sector and the Ministry of Education must be commended for their role in this endeavour,” said Unoma Allen, Corporate Communications Manager, St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

Preserving our Natural & Cultural treasures: Key to sustainability, is the theme for Tourism Week 2006; the events of which are being spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Sports & Culture. The Week will run from October 8th-14th, 2006.
