St. Kitts reports increase in cruise passengers and airport arrivals for September 2009

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) is reporting a 340 percent increase in cruise ship passengers and a six percent increase in passenger arrivals at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in September this year compared to the same month in 2008.

SCASPA’s Department of Finance and Statistics indicate that 12,516 cruise passengers visited St. Kitts in September this year, compared to 2,842 passengers in September 2008. All the passengers came aboard the Carnival Victory which made four calls last month.

The Department also disclosed that despite a 25 percent drop in flights into the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in September 2009, arrivals registered a six percent increase in passengers compared to the same period last year.

According to the Department of Finance and Statistics, 9,161 passengers passed through the airport in September from 476 flights this year compared to 8,605 passengers from 642 in bound flights in September last year.

American Airlines brought in 3,931 passengers from 30 flights, LIAT, 3,512 passengers from 223 flights, American Eagle, 979 passengers from 30 flights, British Airways, 412 passengers from four flights, Miami Air, 141 passengers from two flights and US Airways, 124 passengers from 1 flight.

The Department reported that 7,146 passengers departed the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in September this year, down 3.83 compared to 7,433 passengers for the same month in 2008.
