BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan are expected to further consolidate their friendly relations when the Prime Minister of the twin-island Federation, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas pays an Official Visit to Taipei next week.
Prime Minister Douglas is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris; Minister of Housing, Agriculture and Fisheries. Hon. Cedric Liburd; Chief Secretary, Mr. Joseph Edmeade; Financial Secretary, Mrs. Janet Harris and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Erasmus Williams.
The Official Visit begins on Sunday 27th January with the arrival of the delegation at the Taoyuan International Airport.
While in Taipei, Prime Minister Douglas will meet with Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency James Huang, attend a ceremony for the signing of a new Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Republic of China on Taiwan and the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and meet separately with President Chen Shui-bian and Premier Chang Chun-hsiung.
A major event during the Official Visit is the official opening of an Embassy of St. Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan on Monday afternoon.
Prime Minister Douglas and his delegation will also meet with nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis studying in Taiwan before returning home.
Taiwan established diplomatic relations with the Caribbean country in October 1983.
