BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Crime scene management crisis management and cyber crime investigation are among areas identified for training of law enforcement agencies in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security and Immigration, Mrs. Astona Browne said the ministry has prioritized the sustainability of an atmosphere of safety and security through the delivery of a number of training programs.
She said the training program will also included establishing Community Policing Strategies, Forensic and Crime Scene Management, Crime detection and prevention and Management and Leadership training.
Mrs. Browne, along with officials of the Ministry, the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the Police Training School held talks last week with Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Liaison Officer accredited to the Eastern Caribbean based at the Canadian High Commission in Jamaica, Mr Jeffrey Johnston; and the training manager for the project,, Mr. Paul Jolicoeur, who recently retired as a member of the RCMP. He is a training expert from the Canadian Police College with over 30 years policing experience.
The two officers while here also conducted an on-site visit and consultations in preparation for the delivery of the training package that is expected to be conducted during the first quarter of 2009.
The expected outputs for this training initiative include increased skill level, knowledge and ability in the prevention, investigation of criminal activity, more effective management and leadership skills by supervisors, more effective approach towards community policing initiatives and more effective training approaches to meet police officer needs.
