St. Kitts Breaks Ground On Kittitian Hill Resort

Groundbreaking Takes Place on Upscale Boutique Resort & Spa to be Managed by Sedona ResortsBasseterre, St. Kitts – A traditional groundbreaking ceremony held this past Saturday, November 6, 2010, officially marked the start of construction on St. Kitts’ new Kittitian Hill resort, which will be managed by Sedona Resorts.

“The commencement of construction on Kittitian Hill is yet another significant step forward in the development of St. Kitts’ tourism product, which is continuing at a steady pace despite the challenging global economic climate,” said Senator Ricky Skerritt, Minister of Tourism & International Transport and recently elected CTO Chairman. “This exciting project will be an excellent addition to the island’s portfolio of higher-end properties while also incorporating elements of local culture and employing high standards for environmental sustainability.”

Set on a 400-acre hillside near the northern tip of St. Kitts, Kittitian Hill will add over 500 rooms to the island upon completion. Phase One of construction will include 110 one- and two-bedroom boutique hotel cottages with views stretching over the Caribbean sea, 69 luxury villas, the Mango Walk 18-hole championship Ian Woosnam golf course, a golf club house, beach club located on a nearby beach, swimming pool and various restaurants, bars and duty free shops. Scheduled for completion and opening in November 2012, Phase One of the project will cost over $200 million. Phase Two construction will commence immediately following Phase One and include the Spa, Spa Cottages and Village.

Kittitian Hill will consist of a village with center for creative arts, villas, apartments, duplex townhomes, a cottage hotel with the look and feel of traditional Kittitian cottages, a destination spa featuring indigenous treatments and a championship golf course, which is slated to become the first organic golf course in the Caribbean. Kittitian Hill will be operated by Sedona Resorts, whose Mi Amo spa was named Best Destination Spa by Travel + Leisure magazine in 2009.

“The groundbreaking of Kittitian Hill is an historic occasion and one that is only made possible by the tremendous support that we have received by the government of St. Kitts & Nevis and many persons, some of whom are here today,” said Valmiki Kempadoo, Managing Director of Kittitian Hill. “We are just at the beginning of a journey to make Kittitian Hill into a luxury resort founded on the principles of sustainable development.”

Present at the Kittitian Hill groundbreaking were: Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis; Sam Condor, Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis; Valmiki Kempadoo, Managing Director of Kittitian Hill; Charles Brownfield, Chief Marketing Officer of Sedona Resorts and several other local dignitaries and officials.
