St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Douglas welcomes new United States Ambassador

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The new United States Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Mr. Larry Leon Palmer, paid a courtesy call on the Federation’s Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on Wednesday.

Ambassador Palmer, who is based in Barbados, had earlier presented his credentials to His Excellency the Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian.

In welcoming Ambassador Palmer to the Federation, Prime Minister Douglas expressed thanks to the Barack Obama Administration for fulfilling its obligation to the countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

He thanked Ambassador Palmer for taking up his assignment and said he looked forward to a progressive and successful relationship at the end of his tenure.

Ambassador Palmer thanked Prime Minister Douglas for the support of St. Kitts and Nevis in bi-lateral and multi-lateral initiatives including law enforcement, human rights and the basic freedoms.

He informed Prime Minister Douglas that the two interceptor boats promised by the Barak Obama Administration under the Caribbean Security Initiative will be delivered to St. Kitts and Nevis in July.

Dr. Douglas expressed thanks to President Obama for his administration’s support in the area of national security and in the training of nationals in law enforcement.

Other issues discussed included training in life-long skills and alternative energy including geothermal and wind energy.

Ambassador Palmer presented to Prime Minister Douglas a photo of Western Hemispheric leaders with President Obama at the recent Sixth Summit of the Americas in Colombia.

Dr. Douglas in return gave Ambassador a signed copy of his book “Coming of Age.”
