BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said his government continues to hold discussions with other European carriers to begin direct flights to St. Kitts.
“My government continues to hold talks with officials of Air France and Virgin Atlantic on starting scheduled flights into the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport,” said Prime Minister, who also disclosed discussions were also continuing on further development and expansion of the airport to meet the increased passenger and aircraft traffic expected in the next few years.
Dr. Douglas made the comment after briefly meeting Virgin Atlantic Airway’s Regional Manager for the Caribbean, Mr. Colin Symes and Director of Communications, Mr. Paul Charles.
“I was able to do a quick tour of parts of St. Kitts brief and am satisfied that with the rapid development that I see in St. Kitts, there is the potential for Virgin Atlantic to look more seriously at St. Kitts,” said Symes, who said he is based in Barbados.
British Airways began a weekly direct service on January 10th to the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport from London-Gatwick following successful negotiations spearheaded by Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt.
Prime Minister Douglas said his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party remains robust in attracting other carriers to St. Kitts and developing the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport as a hub for the neighboring islands of Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barths and the British Virgin Islands.
