South Florida’s Jamaican Jerk Festival planned for November 2008

SUNRISE – Citing the constant threat of rain and the unbearable September heat, the promoters of the Jamaican Jerk Festival have decided to move the event from late September to early November. This year’s Jamaican Jerk festival will take place on Sunday, November 9, at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida.

The Jamaican Jerk Festival is a real family treat, filled with attractions and activities for all ages to see and do. The event is now positioned as the biggest Caribbean food festival in the United States; Average attendance for the last two years including repeat visits has been 10,000. Last year rain hampered the event as intermittent showers and evening thunderstorms brought the festival to a pre-mature end and the police denied entry to over 2,000 disappointed patrons.

The Jamaican Jerk Festival has rapidly become one of South Florida’s premier Caribbean family events.

The festival, produced by Riddims Marketing and Jamaica Awareness, Inc., has a broad general market appeal as the popularity of ‘Jerk’ crosses all cultural boundaries in Florida’s dynamic, multi-ethnic population. The Festival is a celebration of authentic Jamaican Jerk tradition in its various forms, and includes Jerk Cook-Off, Cultural performances, Live Entertainment, Domino, Cricket & Netball Competitions and a Children’s Fun Zone.
