South Florida’s Arts Organization Celebrates Anniversary, Honors Local Artists, Community Leaders & Advocates

South Florida – The Diaspora Arts Coalition is proud to present its 4th Annual Awards Gala & Fundraiser, marking its 13th Anniversary. This event will take place on Saturday, November 19t h, 6:30 p.m. (Reception) 7:30 p.m. (Awards Dinner) at the Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd in Miami Shores.

This celebration will honor Arts Policymakers, Media, Organizations, Arts Programmers; Artists and Advocates.

The 2011 DAC ARTS AMBASSADORS are:

– Miami Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez;
– Miami Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime (District 2);
– Miami Dade School Superintendent Dr. Alberto Carvalho;
– Florida Memorial University President Dr. Henry Lewis III;
– Publisher Leona Minto, Miami Gardens Observer; – Radio Personality Rodney Baltimore, Cox Media Group/ HOT 105FM;
– Ms. Carol Ann Taylor, President/CEO of Miami To Go, Inc.;
– Actress Carey Hart;
– Barbara Nickerson
– Lorna Shuford

The evening will feature performances by Tony & World Theatre Award winner, the legendary Melba Moore.

Diaspora Arts Coalition/DAC is a not-for-profit service organization that supports artists and arts organizations. The mission of DAC is to empower the arts community of the African American and Caribbean Diaspora to preserve its culture and heritage. This is achieved through education, marketing, advertising, performance, presentation, technical support, capacity building, audience development, training, artist development and advocacy. Established in 1998, the organization serves as a voice for these entities. Its current membership is comprised of more than 200. DAC has been instrumental in helping to bring to fruition countless programs, events, arts and cultural happenings throughout South Florida and abroad.
