South Florida’s 4th Annual Jamaican Independence Street Dance

Pembroke Pines In celebration of Jamaica’s 49th Anniversary of Independence, the Annual Jamaican Independence Street Dance will return to South Florida for a 4th year. The Grace/Western Union Black Gold & Green Street Jam will take place on Saturday August 6th, 2011, beginning at 8 p.m. and going until at least 2 a.m. The celebration will again be hosted at the well know “Truck Stop”, located at Café 27, on US 27 Hwy/Okeechobee Rd., just north of Griffin Rd., with the admission cost remaining at $5 limited advance and $10 after that.

The Grace/Western Union Black Gold & Green Street Jam” is an original-style celebration that will bring back the tastes, the sounds, the feel and the atmosphere of being back home in Jamaica during Independence time.

The celebration will be in the theme of a street party, with outdoor dancing on the roadway to Ole-Time music, provided by some of South Florida’s very popular DJ’s, DJ Yo Yo, DJ Mark Swaby and DJ Bonnitto. Original style Jamaican food will be available all night from the “Truck Stop” kitchen, and drinks from the full liquor bar, while showcasing our style and culture in a Jamaican festival atmosphere. Attendees can dance on the back roadway or lounge and relax in the tropical style grass area around the outdoor Tiki bar. There will also be sampling of some Jamaican products.

The event will be streamed globally via www.IrieTimes.com.

With around 1500 street jammers passing through the event in 2010, this year promises to be another large crowd. People are expected to be returning from other areas such as West and Central Florida as well as Atlanta and Jamaica.

There is free parking for the event but attendees are strongly encouraged to come early as there will be no parking allowed on highway 27. There will be a large screen once again showing images of cultural features from Jamaica over the years from 1962.

For the 4th consecutive year the celebration is being supported by our title sponsors Grace Foods and Grace Remittance/Western Union, along with support from our partnering sponsor, Ray Forrest Allstate Agency in Sunrise. Because of these sponsors, the 2011 celebration is on tap to again be a huge success, and still at an affordable cost.

This Independence Street Jam is not only part of a 3-day weekend of celebrations for 2011, but it will be a prelude to what is planned for the big South Florida weekend of celebration to come July 27th – 29th, 2012, to commemorate Jamaica’s 50th.

This year’s celebration will also kick off a special month long charity raffle in the spirit of Jamaica’s Independence, with all proceeds going towards helping provide open heart surgery to dying children in Jamaica.
