South Florida plays host to Port Royal, Jamaica exhibition

MIAMI – On Thursday, February 15, 6:30 – 9pm the South Florida community will have an opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see rare artifacts recovered from the sea at Port Royal, Jamaica after a massive earthquake sank what once was known as the “wickedest city on earth” in 1962.

Also on view will be rare books, maps, prints, photographs and video footage that depict the design and recovery of this partially sunken city.

The Historical Museum of Southern Florida, Miami-Dade Cultural Center will be home to this exhibition and is located at 101 West Flagler Street.

Guest speakers Marlon Hill, Southeast U.S. Representative for the Jamaica Diaspora, Ricardo Allicock, Consul General of Jamaica (Miami) and the Hon. Aloun N’dombet-Assamba, Minister of Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture, Jamaica will kick off this reception.

Jamaican Folk Revue and Queens Entertainment will provide the entertainment. Hors d’oeuvres, wine, and rum cake will be served.
