South Florida Jamaican Firm Wins Women’s Chamber Award of Excellence

MIAMI – M. Gill & Associates, Inc., owned by Jamaican born, Marie Gill, is the 2011 winner of the prestigious Thelma Gibson Award of Excellence in Business and Customer Service in Florida. The Award was presented on January 21, 2011 at the 25th Annual Recognition Luncheon of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce in Miami.

Selected from a very competitive field of candidates, M. Gill & Associates emerged the winner for its 21 years of providing management consulting, public relations and economic development services to government and corporations; and for its coaching, entrepreneurship training, business technical service consultation, and mentoring services to women and minority businesses, and student interns from various Florida high schools and universities.

In presenting the award, incoming Women’s Chamber President, Barbara Riesberg, told the 500 luncheon patrons that one of the most compelling features of the winner’s nomination was that owner, Marie Gill, was nominated by her staff who praised her as a leader and mentor.

Riesberg explained that “Marie and her company outshone the competition and scored high points for her unwavering commitment to women, minorities, and inner city development. Of particular interest to the nominating team, was her company’s ongoing provision of excellent quality assurance services in ensuring that developers meet and exceed their requirements to include women-owned, minority-owned, and Section 3 certified businesses on U.S. HUD-funded development projects in South Florida’s inner cities; and for her company’s successful operation of the Minority Business Enterprise Center, a constant source of excellent professional services for minority firms, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce – MBDA in D.C., and which is hosted and supported by the City of Miami.”

Marie was lauded for her personal commitment to women and her leadership in mentoring dozens of young women since 1997, through the National Association of Caribbean Businesswomen which she founded; for her leadership and volunteer services toward the economic development of the South Florida community; and for her work in advancing international trade as volunteer President of the 400-member Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce for the past seven years.

“I feel very honored, and humbled,” said Gill. “I don’t believe there is any greater recognition, than to win that nod of approval and encouragement from one’s peers, especially in these very challenging times.” I share this award with my terrific and awesome staff without whom, I’d be just another woman trying to make it…But it is they who make our company strong and I am grateful to them for supporting our mission and purpose.”
