South Florida Caribbean Community to discuss issues for upcoming meeting in June

MIAMI – CARICOM Ambassadors and Consuls General in South Florida will convene with their constituents on Friday (April 13) at a town hall meeting to discuss relevant issues to the Caribbean community for the upcoming Summit between Caribbean leaders and US President George Bush in June in Washington, D.C.

The town hall meeting will be held at the African American Research Library in Fort Lauderdale, starting at 7 p.m.

As Jamaica’s Consul General Ricardo, Allicock appealed to all Caribbean nationals to be in attendance at the Friday meeting, he noted that the forum would be an opportunity for meaningful discussion on issues relevant to the Diasporic community.

Friday’s meeting will help to form part of the discussions for the two-day Summit to be held June 19th to 21st . Matters to be discussed will include a wide range of topics affecting the Caribbean Diaspora, some of which are immigration, employment, trade and economic development among others.

An earlier meeting to finalize plans for Friday’s town hall forum, will be held on Thursday (April 12) at the Nova Southeastern University Business School in Davie, for the Caribbean Consular Corp along with several community organization leaders.

Similar meetings have already convened in Caribbean communities throughout the United States while preparations are being put in place for the June summit which comes at a time when much attention will focus on the Caribbean Diaspora as June is celebrated as Caribbean Heritage month.
