Small Business Development Expo to help businesses in Miami grow

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez is hosting a Small Business Development Expo on Wednesday, March 5,at the Firefighters Memorial Building.

The Expo is designed to provide small business owners with information on doing business with the County as well as resources that help support new small businesses or expand those that are already established.

“More than 80 percent of businesses in Miami-Dade County are small businesses,” said Mayor Alvarez. “Small business owners are in integral part of our community’s economy creating jobs and sustaining neighborhoods. This Expo is the first of three workshops designed to help support and grow these businesses.”

With a great percentage of these small businesses in Miami-Dade county being owned by Caribbean- Americans this is a great opportunity for owners to receive free advise and information to help them succeed and survive.

Representatives from several County Departments, the Small Business Administration and Accion USA will be providing information such as available business and financial opportunities, technical assistance for small business owners, certification and qualification requirements for doing business with the County, and business mentoring programs.

Several other participating agencies will be presenting information and resources including the University of Phoenix which will be presenting a workshop on reading and interpreting contracts.
