Significant investment leads generated in London at Jamaica House

Kingston, Jamaica – A number of significant investment leads are currently being pursued by the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) in key sectors following the successful staging of the Jamaica House 2012 initiative, which was held from August 3 to 12 at the North Greenwich Arena, London.

Speaking at a local press conference on August 20 at Jamaica House in St. Andrew, Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, indicated that the meetings and discussions that took place over the 10-day period yielded a total of 13 investment leads. He noted that over 50 influential connections were made and over 1,000 persons received direct messaging that promoted Jamaica as a business destination.

He explained that JAMPRO, the country’s investment and export promotion agency, is now aggressively working on converting three leads in the clothing/manufacturing industry, the importation of Jamaica drink and food products into the United Kingdom and contract manufacturing of a juice product.

The other nine leads under the agency’s purview are in the areas of light manufacturing, the distribution of liquid cleaning solutions, furniture manufacturing, medical/wellness resorts, waste-to-energy, manufacturing/ assembling of speed boats and business process outsourcing (BPO).

“Expressions of interest have been received from three top global outsourcing companies, which are considering Jamaica as a location to expand their business,” said Minister Hylton.

JAMPRO’s London office will be working with these companies at a follow-up seminar on outsourcing scheduled for the coming weeks at the Jamaica High Commission, where additional details regarding opportunities in Jamaica’s outsourcing sector will be presented.

In the Creative Industries, Minister Hylton disclosed that, “Jamaica was able to showcase, to a big gathering of investors, its achievements in film, fashion, and music, in particular its ongoing efforts with Toon Boom animation to create a local film animation industry on the talent and ingenuity if our young software developers and animators. Coming out of the Creative Industries Day at Jamaica House, a major global awards show is actively considering Jamaica as a location.”

Jamaica House 2012 was organised by JAMPRO, the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the Jamaica 50 Secretariat.
