HOLLYWOOD, Fla. –Seminole Casino Hollywood is celebrating the diverse rhythms, culture and colors of South Florida with a free Caribbean Block Party on Saturday, July 7 from 6 – 10 p.m. Hollywood’s original place to play will offer a one-of-a-kind outdoor event featuring authentic island cuisine and cocktails, selections from Miami’s Gourmet Food Trucks, complimentary Miller Lite, live entertainment and a show-stopping performance by Reggae legends The Original Wailers.

“Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the multicultural sights, sounds and tastes of South Florida,” said Michael J. Broderick, director of marketing and promotions for Seminole Casino Hollywood. “In appreciation of the Caribbean’s many contributions, we’ve lined-up an incredible island showcase featuring breezy tropical specialties, legendary entertainment and, of course, exciting play-to-win promotions.”

To listen to The Original Wailers is to hear musical history while it is being made. From playing those unmistakable opening notes of “No Woman, No Cry” to the helm of today’s torchbearers of the Trench Town sound, guitarist and bandleader Al Anderson unites those that have chosen to honor their history not by attempting nostalgically to recreate it, but by taking the spirit, the intent of its creators, and moving it forward through the 21st century. Sharing those transcendental moments with Anderson as a member of Bob Marley’s Wailers is Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Desii Hyson on vocals, Francis (Paapa) Nyarkoh on percussion and Steve Samuels on bass. Completing the sonic experience that is the Original Wailers, is melody maker Erica Newell, the 1 in 2+1- Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers back-up singing trio that included Marley sisters Sharon and Cedella.

Collectively, the group credits its experience with The Abyssnians Beenie Man, Black Uhuru, Buju Banton, Culture, Peter Tosh, Junior Reid, Tom Tom Club, Ian Dury, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse and Alpha Blondy to create the distinct sound of The Original Wailers.

This cultural, international, and generational sextet is making footprints forward as it continues on a path laid so many years before.
