GRAND CAYMAN – Twenty-three-year-old Samantha Widmer will be representing Cayman Islands in the Miss Earth pageant in Vietnam, on 4 December, 2010. Miss Widmer was chosen by the directors of N’Vogue Productions/Miss Earth Cayman Islands committee and was presented at a private luncheon held on August 28, at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites.

Miss Earth is an annual international beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness. Along with Miss Universe and Miss World contests, Miss Earth is one of the three most highly recognized beauty competitions in the world.

The Miss Earth event has an environmental cause and primarily seeks beautiful, young women who will rise to the occasion of protecting and preserving the planet. They are required to be highly knowledgeable in environmental issues relating to their home country and become ambassadors and spokespersons for the environmental concerns facing their country and the world and the overall health of the earth and its environment.

During the international pre-finals’ weeks, all countries’ delegates are evaluated on the activities and events they represent; their knowledge of international environmental issues; and their beauty, personality and charm.

In fulfilling the ideals of “BEAUTIES FOR A CAUSE” she will work on environmental projects and do her best to educate Caymanians by providing a better understanding of the need for greater responsibility in preserving our environment and the importance of the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle). Miss Widmer will be Goodwill Ambassador and Spokesperson for Cayman Islands, particularly its environmental and tourism industries. She leaves for Vietnam on November 4, for the four-week competion.
